"Something Incredible" is the third album by Bulgarian born, Nashville based, Alex Petrounov, a prolific singer/songwriter and guitar player. Petrounov produced, sang and played acoustic and electric guitar, bass, drums and keyboards on seven of the album's 13 tracks. The remainder, produced by Know Your Hat Productions (former Wilco drummer Ken Coomer and Charlie Brocco), feature Petrounov's band. "These guys are off the chain," says Petrounov. The 13 tracks on "Something Incredible" display Petrounov's warm, vulnerable tenor, lush melodies and achingly romantic lyrics. Even when he's dealing with the difficulties of love, Petrounov remains sunny and optimistic. Standout tracks include the title track "Something Incredible," a song that you cannot get out of your head, "Five Thousand Miles," a straight-up, mid-tempo rocker drenched in swirling layers of acoustic and electric guitars, "Falter and Fade" a gentle love song with a subtle funky backbeat and "Monotony," an impressive showcase of Petrounov's percussive acoustic guitar style. The album also includes "Nothing's Left" and "Tonight," live tracks that give you a glimpse of the energy Petrounov can generate with nothing more than his guitar and voice. Alex Petrounov was born in Bulgaria and moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL with his family when he was ten. His father, Alexander Petrounov started The Silver Bracelets, Bulgaria's first rock band. "My dad took me with him on tour," the younger Petrounov recalls, "but when I was a kid, I never thought of being a musician myself, but you never know where life takes you." When Petrounov was 14 his father gave him a guitar; he started writing songs and taught himself to play bass and drums as well. "I'd been writing stories in my head for years," Petrounov says. "Music finally gave me an outlet for integrating poetry, melody, harmony and rhythm into something that I hope will touch people's hearts." Petrounov moved to Nashville when he was 26 to make his mark on the world of music. "I wanted a city that was friendly to musicians but New York and LA were too big," Petrounov says laughing. "Country music had nothing to do with it." In Music City, Petrounov found a small, but growing community of like-minded artists, including the musicians who would soon make up his Off The Chain Band. "In the past few years, there's been a large influx of artists and songwriters who have monster chops and are interested in jazz, rock and progressive pop. Even some of the country people are paying attention to it, because the energy and creativity of this movement is phenomenal." Petrounov began to build a reputation in this "alternative Nashville" as both a solo act and with his band. His first two albums "October Poems" and "Small Revolution" were well received and paved the way for "Something Incredible," his most polished and heartfelt work to date. Nashville's WRLT - Lightning 100 - is already providing airplay and his live shows are drawing rave reviews from both fans and critics. With his cherubic face, curly hair and dark good looks Petrounov already looks like a rock star.
