The students of Page Street Elementary School, in Troy, North Carolina, have done something truly remarkable. They have recorded their own music CD that has been released to the public. It all started with the school song, “Place to Becomeâ€, which was written to inspire school pride, and serve as something that would honor and unify the school. Soon the students’ interest nurtured other ideas, and as the students learned and sang the song, questions arose. “Could we sing the song faster?†and “Could we perform it as a rap?†they would ask. It was the perfect teaching opportunity waiting to happen. In August of 2003, the process of recording the school song began. The students then began polishing their singing, and talking about what it would take to make a CD ready for the public. Recording equipment was brought into the classroom, and the students practiced recording and evaluating their own performances. For two weeks in September, a professional recording environment was created and the different versions of the school song were recorded.
