Neil Rosengarden Just A Pack Of Neurons

1. A Whole New Thing

Back when I was more easily amused, I recorded these vocal clusters and slid them around on a pre-made rhythm track. Recorded on a Chestnut floor in 2001. (I lived in an old farmhouse built in 1810 just south of Franklin, Tennessee for awhile).

2. Leo

This was an offering to my ex-brother-in-law, Jim Greer (a great songwriter, creative type), and his wife, the lovely Clarence Berger, to celebrate the birth of their son, Leo in 2004.

3. Thing In Five

Makes me feel Hungarian (which I am on my Mother's side). Recorded on a Chestnut floor in 2001.

4. Sandy

An old tune from the late 1980's, that I’ve recorded several versions of. This version is the one with the lyrics.

5. French Horn Dance

Written and recorded in South Pasadena, in 1992.

6. James Brown In Tanganyika

It just sounds like him, there, to me, here. From 1988.

7. Faurecercize

Written and Recorded on a Crumar @ 975 Clayton in the Haight in San Francisco circa 1984.

8. I’ve Had Just About Enough Of Your Shit (For Now)

Must have been a premonition, or something. When he first heard it (at my brother's wedding!), my Dad made me play it over and over. It always makes him laugh. Done in the Harry Nilsson, Tex-Mex style. Recorded on a Chestnut floor.

9. What Is Wrong With Me?

I could hear Tower Of Power or someone like that doing this song.
The song was born in 1987.

10. Quittin’ Time

I originally imagined Ellen DeGeneres dancing around to this, but her people never responded, so I think it’s meant for something else! Its' instant groove, its' undeniable funkiness is astounding. Maybe because it was recorded in 2001 on a Chestnut floor...

11. It Flows

Bob Marley must have been on my brain when I recorded this in LA in 1988. It was fun to write, and record with my Tascam Porta One!

12. Monkey Song

I recorded some Monkeys at the San Francisco Zoo in 1983 on my Walkman. Then I added some Piano parts, Triangle, Drum Machine, and A Box of Cow Moo toys. Recorded at the Zoo and @ Mark Rosengarden & Jane Lenoir's Basement in Glen Park in 1983.

13. Beautiful Tonight

In 1984, I fell hard for this amazingly distant, Irish-American, moody calamari eater. At least I got this song out of it. Also recorded at my brother's house.

14. Just Anyone

I wrote this song singing that everything was alright, but actually it was horrible! I was feeling alone, and on anti-depressants, and was very depressed... It was Spring 1984, I think. Recorded at my brother's house.

15. Motorcycle Man

Song from early 1975, written in New York City, when I lived on 48th Street. Recorded on my trusty Revox A77.

16. In Brooklyn, New York

My version of Bali Hai from 1974, written in Great Neck, New York.

17. People Are Stupid All Over The World

One of my first songs written in Tennessee, in 1995. An old family favorite.
