The Cleveland-based Zach picked up a guitar for the first time four years ago and has been awing both audiences and critics since. His wild stage energy has been a part of his show since his first coffee shop appearance, as has his trademark black derby. His first CD, Delusions, was released in late 1998, where the Scene magazine called him "not only good for his age, but just plain good." The crowd favorite, "Chase Me Away", was licensed for use on MTV's The Real World. The CD also featured Frank Romano, Guitar One's New York "studio ace," who not only played on the CD, but co-wrote a song, and began playing in Zach's band as well. In 2000, Zach released the highly anticipated follow-up CD, Turquoise Dreams. The CD was named as "one of the best CD's of the year" by WAPS the Summit, and the Free Times gave the record a B-Plus, saying that "Freidhof obviously has a vast creative storehouse to draw from, and a good sense of songcraft and arrangement. He's one to watch on the local scene." The CD received on online rating of 5-Stars, and was spun on radio stations throughout the region. It drew attention from Jay Leno, Dick Clark, and Steve Poltz (co-writer of the mega-hit "You Were Meant for Me"). Zach and his band of talented studio musicians hit the club scene hard for the remainder of the year, headlining and opening for many of the elite local/regional acts. By the end of the year, he had been on the bill with Bo Diddley, The Outlaws, and the New Rascals. "Bolero," a short story of his placed at the top of the NEW CENTURY WRITER AWARDS for 2000, and was read at the National Undergraduate Literature Conference in Utah. He was named the BEST ACOUSTIC ACT and BEST OVERRALL BAND at the 2001 Cleveland Music Festival. Also in early 2001, he was asked to play at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and became the House Band at the new Peabody's Concert Club. One of the highlights of the year, was his addition to the bill at Farm Aid and performing on local television. Catie Curtis, Mountain, War, and Buckwheat Zydeco all added Zach to their shows. He was featured as headliner at the Midwest Music Summit in Indianapolis. For the fall season, he entered the college market, playing regional colleges. The end of the year saw the release of his song, "Distracted", on the WAPS The Summit release Bandwidth v.2.0 where the Free Times picked it out as a highlight. Already in 2002, Zach has opened for Richard Thompson at the Odeon, headlined the 2002 Cleveland Music Festival, won BEST POP/ROCK ACT from that festival, was nominated as BEST SINGER/SONGWRITER for the 2002 Free Times Awards, opened for Bad Company, the Godz, Chicago (at the Tower City Amphitheater), Christopher Cross, and Meatloaf, is on the bill with Michael Bolton (at Nautica) this fall, and acquired an endorsement from D'Addario Guitar Strings. His third CD, A Beautiful Possession is slated for a fall release and is gathering quite a buzz of interest even prior to its release. He has reformed his band to a three-piece consisting of Angela Cutrone on drums and Wally Spisak on bass. Zach and his band are preparing to hit the road this summer in promotion of the new release, kicking off the tour at the Hard Rock Café.
