But that's not Sue Medley. Instead, she'd rather regale the listener with stories about her journey and its positive lessons. She remembers with a smile her four and a half year stint in Nashville, where she learned the craft of songwriting. She'll tell you about her humble beginnings in her home town: Courtenay,B.C where at 15 years old she convinced a club owner to book her aspiring band. She'll tell you about recording her first three albums (and some in John Mellencamp's recording studio) in Bloomington, IN. where she lived for 4 years. Her stories of one-nighters up and down 1-65 in Indiana and Kentucky led her to a huge fan following in Indiana. And of course, bringing her music to Australia in summer 1999: where she was well received and boasted about on all major TV and Radio stations in Australia: her album charted #13 after Madona's "Ray of Light." She'll talk about discovering her Los Angeles-based manager, Montrealer Nathalie Gaulthier at a dinner before a telethon performance in Vancouver, and how Gaulthier's film and Television background has been an added plus. She sparks with excitement when she tells you how Nathalie introduced her to Bobby Yerkes, a 70 year old famous Hollywood stunt trainer and how he's taught her to become an accomplished trapeze artist. "Hey, you can see Nathalie and I in the "Gone" video,(Velvet Morning album) with her holding me upside down 40 feet over a net !" Her long hours in Toronto shooting her recent videos for her last album, Velvet Morning; resulted in a good rotation on Much More Music in Canada. Her incredible life-changing experience in Bosnia (summer 2000) was a highlight in her career. She entertained the Canadian troops for 3 weeks and cherishes the experience. "I was proud to be Canadian and share my music to lift the morale of our peace keepers. I saw a different life and truly realized how fortunate and thankful I am for my life...." And when it comes to Dawson's Creek Television series, she realizes her move to Los Angeles was indeed a good one. "It's a who-you-know kind of place: my music was passed to someone Nathalie "knew" and all of a sudden they were booking my songs on a weekly basis." Sure enough, 30% of the Velvet Morning album was used in major scenes on the series,(2000-2001) making Medley the most used music artist in a single season beating out the year's Grammy and Juno winners. The Dawson's fans worldwide voted Sue as Best Female artist and Best Song of the Year ("You Won't See Me Cry") on the Dawson's Music Awards, hence creating a whole brand new young fan base. She is often the Spotlight artist on the Warner Brother's Dawson's Creek web site and the show's producers are looking at an Ally-McBeal-Vonda-Shepard plan for Medley. "They have been incredibly supportive and I am entirely grateful for what they have done for me - I'm very fortunate." Last Christmas, the producers asked Sue to record "O Holy Night" specifically for their Christmas special and they offered the recording as a Christmas gift to Dawson's fans worldwide. Her Dawson's exposure led her to grace the cover of SOCAN magazine: "Magical Medley" (Aug.2000 issue) On her new list of projects is Producing and songwriting a young 18 year old Latino boy from underprivileged South Central Los Angeles: "Edouardo". "He's a real star and deserves the chance. Tackling the Latin market with Eddie is very rewarding and he will do very well. It's an opportunity for me to give back now and share my experiences with the up and comers." Medley plans to release an album with the Latin heart throb and is talks with RCA... On top of her busy schedule, Medley has approached yet another new arena: She is writing a musical with her manager; "SHHH...". The pair has presented two productions together already to sold out houses and standing ovations. "It's a great way to share my music and express myself as an artist in a theatrical manner.... our work speaks about "life" and the things we all want to say... but are afraid to." On her spare time, she studies at UCLA in Drug and Alcohol Counseling where she received an A+ as her final grade on her first course! Most of all, she's excited about where her music career has led her and the new journey ahead. She'll be in studio Fall 2001 recording and producing her latest material for her new album which she feels extremely confident about. "It's songs everyone can relate to: young and old, and the style and approach is quite new..... I have found my voice and know what I need to say." "I'm a much better songwriter now as my songs come from the heart....and that's the only way I know how to do it. My newer material will connect me to new audiences and my old audience will still relate to it. It's been a wonderful journey and I am anxious to share it !" Long a star in her native Canada, she's up beat, optimistic, excited, and has a heavy touring schedule ahead of her: Canada March-April 2002 with her new album.
