New York City has always been a breeding ground for cutting edge sounds, as illustrated with the last few years' number of garage/punk/bare bones bands. Trends and fads rule the airwaves and streets. Where will these bands be when the novelty wears off? That's where Soul Disciple comes in - a step ahead - thanks to its timeless, bluesy pop-tinged songs that never go out of style. Open you soul.... The creative forces behind Soul Disciple are Theodora and Rich LaRocca. Veterans of New York's music scene, they've paid their dues with various Original and cover bands. Their joint venture, Soul Disciple, was formed in 2001. They have appeared in some of NYC's favorite live band venues, such as Arlene's Grocery, The Bitter End, CB's Gallery, The Baggot Inn, Kenny's Castaways. They have earned a following, which has given rise to a favored reputation within music circles. This is a band to be reckoned with. In it's early days, Soul Disciple was presented to the masses in music's purest form - Theodora's three octave range voice and Rich's uncompromising acoustic guitar. Their unique presentation drew people in immediately giving Theodora and Rich the foundation to work on. This year, they've recruited two top NYC musicians to make up the rhythm section - Phil Smith on bass and Mike Grayson on Drums. From the first chords of the opening song, "The Life I Left Behind," you're hooked as Theodora's expressive and affecting vocals and Rich's spellbinding guitar take you on a soulful ride. This journey continues throughout the CD, with the very raw and bluesy feel of tunes like "Reality Is" and "Shutdown", but it also possesses the pure Pop sensibility of songs like "Little Secret " and "Super Ego", "I Miss You" brings you to your knees with its poignant lyrics about a subject we're all too familiar with. Loaded with brilliant influences but still their own, they are here to stay. This heartfelt level of sound will catapult Soul Disciple into the consciousness of new and current fans as they begin touring to promote their recently completed full-length CD, The Life I Left Behind. ...become a Disciple.
