Souls for Rent exploded onto the Chicago music scene this spring, marking the latest creative endeavor of accomplished local guitar player and songwriter, Geoff Siebold. He created Souls for Rent a year ago to express himself better musically -- and to provide the musical challenge he and fellow band members were craving. "SFR has given me an outlet to sing and write exactly what I want," said Siebold. "If people like it, great. If not, I can still say I'm proud of the material and it's mine from top to bottom." Siebold describes Souls' sound as funky rock, with strong undertones of his Nuno Bettencourt-influenced style. "There is a definitive percussive nature to Souls' songs. The guitar 'hooks' set the tone and are what I want people to hear first and foremost." The appeal of Souls' music lies equally in its interesting guitar riffs, strong rhythmic beat and catchy vocal melodies. The inspiration for Siebold's musical creativity comes from life experiences - the good and the bad. "Life experiences and emotions like joy, pain, anger, jealously, frustration and sex shape who I am, who we all are," said Siebold. "I hope people will connect with my music on some level - with the common threads that ultimately define us all." Siebold, who plays lead guitar and vocals, has assembled an impressive list of veteran musicians to support Souls' signature sound. Long-time friend and fellow band member Dan Heim keeps steady and skilled rhythm on drums and background vocals. His creativity and contributions are compelling, according to Siebold. Accomplished musician Brian Beck, contributes strong bass lines, vocals and compositional intuition to the band. Guitarist Lon Ripley rounds out the band's sound live and has provided his considerable artistic talents to the creation of its logo and overall look.
