An Atlanta native who studied English at the University of Georgia, this Eryn McHugh is poised to breathe new life into the sometimes-mundane "singer-songwriter" vein. As a preacher's daughter, Eryn grew up singing and playing piano in the choir, but has since stretched herself purposefully. Eryn has sung in an all African-American ensemble, performed with Athens, GA-based band, Bluestring, and is currently touring with her band, which includes Atlanta guitar maestro, Jason Christian. Christian doubles as Eryn's writing partner and manager. Self-described as "thoughtful, eclectic and socially schizophrenic," Eryn's writing ranges from subtle observation to outspoken commentary. She credits Carole King, Sade, Rickie Lee Jones, and Al Green as major musical influences in her style. A consummate "right-brainer," as she often points out, Eryn aspires to other types of writing as well, and is currently working on both a screenplay and an anthology of short stories. Eryn merely scratches the surface of her talent on her self-titled debut album "Eryn McHugh," which was co-produced with Emmy award winning producer Cliff Downs. She has recently been "writing (her) butt off," preparing her next album-length body of work for producing and recording. Creative Loafing recently reviewed the debut album: "Though her drop dead looks may cause some to dismiss her, there's substance to this 21 year old Atlanta native. Her self-titled debut, finds her soulful voice running over surprisingly diverse musical terrain, sashaying from pop to gospel to soul without ever sounding lost." The Flagpole of Athens recently said of Eryn: "...not just another generic diva, but (what could be) considered a radio-ready pop chanteuse." Big words for this five-foot-nothing preacher's kid.
