ERNIE HINES, from Jackson, Mississippi to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Chicago, Illinois and all across America!

Ernie's first gospel group as lead singer and guitarist were the Scotland-Aires of Louisiana and they quickly became a household name after recording a radio commercial for a bakery, well known in and around the city.

Ernie's musical taste expanded and he started to play music in all areas of entertainment from the Slim Harpo Blues Band to the Joe Valentine’s popular band. He gigged with various well known artists who came through Baton Rouge, finally settling in as personal guitarist for L.C. Cook, the brother of the late great gospel and pop-soul singer, Sam Cooke.

Ernie was a key component in working with renowned producer/director, Otto Priminger and musical maestro Hugo Montenegro in setting up the music score for the title song to a socially sensitive movie soundtrack. He also taught a certain star of the movie to pantomime the guitar for the big closing scene.

Ernie was encouraged to move to Illinois to launch his writing and recording career. He recorded in Chicago (for a major label in New York), and also for a major label in Memphis, Tennessee.
During that same period, he wrote gospel songs for major recording groups and songs for R&B pop groups (one such group in Chicago, shared the staged with the soon to be famous Jackson Five).

A prolific writer and composer, more than fifty (50) of Ernie’s songs have been recorded over the years.

Some recordings of Ernie are on the Wall of Fame in the new Stax Museum of American Soul Music at 870 East McLemore Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee.

Ernie’s companies, Colorful Music Publishing and Baby Blue Records, were incorporated in 2000 and became Colorful Music Baby Blue Records, Inc.
A single, “The Lovin" Crown” b/w “Put It to Music”, was released on the record label in 2003. One song about a woman being "crowned" because of her skills in the "art of love", the other song about tropical fun.

Before the follow-up to that R&B reggae flavored single CD release (now a Collector's Item since it was his last secular recording)), Ernie had a "change of heart", a deep spiritual re-awakening and has since re-dedicated himself to the music that first made his heart sing, that of singing praises to God and spreading the Good News of the gospel.

Ernie is in good standing and an active member of the Forest Park Baptist Church of Forest Park, Illinois serving on the financial board and as a teacher of Adult Bible Studies.

Ernie’s complete life story (Full Circle) is being written, both in text and in pictures by Colin Dilnot of the UK.

The new CD on Baby Blue Records (all songs written or co-written by Ernie) entitled, “Ernie Hines-There Is A Way” (Inspirational Songs of Faith Hope and Love), cuts right to the heart of matters and is offered up to you in a well produced, skillfully written, uniquely soulful and thoughtful package by the man who's voice is, as one minister describes it, "as smooth as silk"!
