the black watch, a long-standing violin/guitar attack indie pop band with mesmerizing melodies and soaring boy/girl vocals have released 7 CDs in 12 years and have been compared to the likes of xtc, my bloody Valentine, robyn hitchcock, new order and/or, perhaps most flatteringly, a sad Beatles. critics in the indie world have raved about the virtousic violin work of J'Anna Jacoby (now a part-time member of Rod Stewart's band). J'Anna also plays strange chords on guitar and sings the odd song. frontman John Andrew Fredrick holds a Ph.D. in English Literature and his lyrics sure do reflect that interesting fact: they're as poetic as they are reflective and, at times, very very sardonic as well as witty and wise. the jazz butcher makes a guest appearance on "what is the color of happiness?" (featured on their 2002 release: jiggery-pokery. Jack Rabid of stalwart indie mag THE BIG TAKEOVER has labeled the black watch "the most criminally under appreciated indie band in America."
