Put this in the blender: static soul, crippled rock, street-corner gospel and a three-speed record player. Fez is a four-person combo from Detroit, Michigan, loaded with explosive instrumentation that includes pump organ, theremin, tenor banjo, guitar and drums. Lyrical glue holds the music together creating songs of love and loathing, obsession and confession, and crippled redeemers gone awry. Pan lid bedlam, bent horns and stuttering guitar hatches the perfect remedy for boredom of the obvious. Fez's original music is written by Dean Olkowski, who sings and plays guitar, banjo and pump organ. Jim Morningstar clubs drums, cow bells and hubcaps; Bill Zoyes plays bass; and Melinda Clynes works the theremin, melodica and electric organ. The band's second CD, Milquetoast, was released in September of 1999. Fez's first recording, Elixir, was released in 1997. Elixir was listed in “Top Ten Recordings of 1997†by Detroit's WDET public radio station and local entertainment weekly The Metro Times.
