THIS IS THE FIRST "NEW" STONEGROUND ALBUM IN 22 YEARS!STONEGROUND was formed 1970 in San Francisco. What originally started as a trio soon expanded to a 10 piece band. They were very famous for their live performances and managed to tour both America and Europe as part of Warner Brothers' MEDICINE BALL CARAVAN. In Europe they even managed to develop some kind of cult status. Some of the later band members (Cory Lerios, Steve Price and David Jenkins) left to form PABLO CRUISE who turned out to be a commercial success.
In 1978 Jo Baker joined Annie Sampson and Tim Barnes to form a version of STONEGROUND with new band members Fred Webb, Terry Davis and Sammy Pizza.

This new STONEGROUND band got started when Tim Barnes former guitar roadie called Tim about doing some recording with his wife, Claudia Knauer. Then Steve Price came down to the studio and played drums. When they realized how much they all liked what was going on in the studio, Tim decided it was time to reform STONEGROUND

Yes, it has been a long time. 22 years is a long time without any new STONEGROUND music. But STONEGROUND is back ! and they are "back with a vengeance". The STONEGROUND sound that's been sorely missed for so long is right there now, all mixed in with a new and exciting STONEGROUND sound that lefts the heart and soul and moves your body. This is the hard rockin' version of STONEGROUND, with two female vocalists right up front. And of course, one of America's greatest rock guitarist's, Tim Barnes, and the founder of STONEGROUND is back. Tim really opens up on these tunes. He makes this album worth it's weight in gold for the guitar work alone! On top of that his vocals are powerful, dramatic and fun. With Tim, as expected, two ladies, each fantastic lead singers, following in the footsteps of those great women of STONEGROUND that preceded them, Claudia Knauer and Dana Moret are downright thrilling to see and hear. Each a very special vocalist. These ladies can make you cry one moment, then be growling the low down dirty blues the next and then jump right into that loud rock & roll music we just have to have now and then. But maybe this story should really start with Steve Price, STONEGROUND's drummer. Because truly, great rock must start with a truly great rock drummer. Steve is so powerful, so forceful, it's amazing to hear him use that power, all the while, showing his unusual sense of dynamics that's both engaging and wonderfully unpredictable. Steve is at his zenith on this CD. Greg King on bass, adds the low end to this music with a style of play that says everything without saying too much. He is steady, solid, soulful and can get funky as you like, which you'll hear on some of these songs. He also sings both lead and background. Did we save the best for last? That's actually impossible with this level of talent across the stage, but if you asked the band, they might just say yes when it comes to Kelly Stephens. Kelly is one of those rare keyboard guys that does everything. He plays piano, organ, sings lead, sings background, and even does a guitar duet with Tim during the live shows. STONEGROUND can't really be true to the STONEGROUND sound without all the beautiful keys Kelly brings to this collection of tunes. He has sprinkled both magical sounds and pure rock & roll all over this CD. Enough said. STONEGROUND's NEW CD will say the rest.
