Dishwater Psychics blend the pop-inflected songwriting traditions of the '60s and '70s with textured, indie-tinged guitars, dark lyrics and hummable melodies to create a crunchy mid-fi hybrid. Their third album, "Candlewax Horizon," melds the spontaneity of analog home-recording with the range and resources of long-distance collaboration. Reference points like early Guided by Voices, Sebadoh, and Swearing at Motorists inform the songs, which deal with Midwestern decay and drunken isolation.
