Atomsplit was born in 1996 as a result of a tragic break up among the members of one of Atlanta's most promising artists, the Inklings. Hence the band name, two members of the Inklings, including the rock 'n roll poetry of Doug Davenport (vocals, guitar) and the flailing strength of John Peterson (drums, vocals) founded Atomsplit. Pete Knapp, former bassist of twang-rockers, the Indicators (featuring Dave McNair of Magnapop) and guitar-slingin' producer, John Briglivich (Double Drive, Josh Joplin, Goo Goo Dolls) joined up later. "Microstar" is the first release containing the new line up and it's tell tale of this new fusion of styles. The result? A more powerful power pop than any preceeding Atomsplit album. Tracks like "Americanized" and "Surreal" capture the might of a stronger, tighter quartet, while the title track, "Consider Yourself Lucky" and several others contain the quirk & jerk of Atomsplit past. "Microstar" is burning up the CMJ charts with ease, here in the Spring of 2002. Those of you big fast connections can check out the video to support one of the singles on their website.
