American Lad is mesmerizing -- Nestled neatly between catchy melodies and emotive lyrics sit 2 lead vocalists with enough diversity and similarity to keep their sound smart, powerful and uniquely identifiable. Think Guster meets Crowded House meets David Gray. The result is a melodic musical carnival brushed with thick harmonies that always keep you guessing. Their lyrics weave tales of emotional struggles and internal conflicts but are laced with a sense of optimism without sounding heavy-handed. With a sonic atmosphere that ranges from organic and understated to edgy and suggestive, American Lad is as accessible as they are unpredictable, yet they ultimately always sound like themselves. They are the band whose CD you steal from your girlfriend and the one Mom and Dad can't help humming along to. Along with their brutally honest live performances, these boys are brimming with personality and charm, which makes the only good thing about the show ending is the opportunity you may have to grab a beer with them at the bar! Garth McDermott, Michael Sheridan and Paul Umbach are the "American lads" who come together to create these carefully crafted power-pop songs. McDermott and Sheridan alternate in composing and singing lead vocals on the band's songs in much of the same spirit as Lennon & McCartney. Besides being their resident drummer, serving as producer for the group's material is Umbach, whose production credits include top artists on Jive, Interscope, Sanctuary and Geffen Records. The band's self-released/self-titled CD was released in the summer of 2001 and their follow-up "go there...to get here" was released in late March 2004. This new disc features all 3 members performing a variety of different instruments displaying their talents as accomplished multi-instrumentalists. Performance dates to support the album are to follow. Most recently, their music was featured in the independent B-movie horror satire, "Survive This!" American Lad's music takes you on unexpected twists and turns while keeping a keen eye on the road ahead. So sit back, take a listen and enjoy the ride!
