New Austrian pop rock sensation Ba- Roque were formed in 2001 by Martin Oberneder and Heidi Bobal. It took blood, sweat and tears to assemble all the band members. Drummers, guitarists and singers came and went but eventually Ba-roque was born. At first they only played cover versions but soon realised they were better at writing their own songs. Their catchy, uplifting and remarkable debut single " Lonely in Love" fuses a melodic piano based emotional pop ballad with an epic classic rock sound. It was recorded in January 2004. The single comes backed with the almost prog rock like rock pop opera "Why Forget our Feelings ?". Prior to recording the band toured Vienna and left people breathless at the Emergenza Festival. We had the pleasure of talking to them BA-ROQUE - THE INTERVIEW 1. What made you decide to embark on a recording career, tell us a bit about the Ba-Roque musical history ? Music can express feelings and emotions much better than words or gestures. The urge to express ourselves is the source of all our ambitions. Ba-Roque was formed in 2001. In fact, Martin (dr) and Heidi (git) started it, playing covers first, finding other musicians to join in, and eventually, we started writing our own songs. From the beginning, we had the vision of a unique sound, created by a wide choice of instruments - two guitars, keyboards, two female voices - and influenced by all the various styles of music the different members of the band prefer. Musicians came and went and influenced us. Today, we all write and arrange our songs together. 2. Who or what are your influences? We are influenced by the rock and pop music of the 70´s, 80´s and a little bit the 90´s, according to our ages.... 3. What modern artists do you rate? There are a lot of modern and also older artists, on the whole we prefer the old ones, Mannfred Mann, Queen, Janis Joplin, Steve Ray Vaughn, Elvis Presley, Freddie Mercurie, Frank Zappa, Anastacia, ..... and many more 4. If you could choose to record a song with any other artist/band alive or dead who would it be ? Bruce Springsteen - he and his E-Street-Band write and perform really good rock songs and Ballads . Mannfred Mann - his keyboard sound and his way of playing are unique . Queen - inspired by Freddy they created an entirely new sound in rock history crowned by the background choir, and their songs are melodious and catchy. 5. What inspires you to write your music ? Feelings, emotions, experiences, situations. 6. Name your all time fave song ie: desert island disc ? Lonely in Love by Ba-Roque Division Bell by Pink Floyd Mannfred Mann live in Budapest Up by Peter Gabriel 7. What instruments do you all use ? Keys: Korg M1, Korg sp100, Yamaha cs1x, hammmond ob2, waldorf micro Q Bass: Basscollection 5-string, Trace Elliott Amp Drums: Mapex Mars Pro Drums, UFIP Cymbals Karl plays Neubauer and Ibanez Guitars, Carvin Amp Bernie plays Tokai and Ibanez Guitars and Fender Amp Vocals - Shure microphones 8. What are your ambitions for your music. Where do you see Ba-Roque in 5 years ? We want to find out, whether there are people in the world, who like and understand our music and lyrics, who want our music to become a part of their lives, In five years we will be famous, we´ll write lots of good rock songs, we'll play for a big audience on very big stages...all over the world and make our living with music. 9. How would you describe your music and what genre do you think it fits into ? Our music is emotional, catchy, melodious, not too simple..., we'd call it classic-rock or harmonic rock . 10. Your new E.P has a very retro and classic but modern up to date sound with an almost prog rock twist. How did you get that sound ? Where was it recorded/produced ? Our sound is influenced by all the band´s members, and as we all listen to and prefer very different kinds of music our style and sound are a mix of all these styles, which we try to unite to one sound. We recorded these two songs at Seemann Mastersound in Vienna on analogue equipment, cause we like the analogue sound, as it fits with our music , and we couldn´t afford a digital studio, that could produce just the kind of sound we like. We´d like to thank Walter Seemann, our producer, for giving us the best out of 25 years of experience in recording rock. Check out the artist's website: http://www.ba-roque.at.tf/ Track List: 1.
