... sequences of programmed synthesizers bending into live instruments ... escapist lyricism ... a stylized, imaginative visual punctuation ... these are the essences of Audrey ... Initiated by guitarist Andre Leroux and pop stylist Max during the last summer of the twentieth century, Audrey began coming together at St. Paul's .datalyst studios. It was there that they began exploring possibilities and idea-mining specific time periods in popular music. A year of writing, recording and searching for other interested artists would pass before meeting hip-hop drummer Josh Lemoine - who was immediately conscripted into Audrey. Back at .datalyst, to the crashing sound of a drum machine meeting an unhappy end on the pavement four stories below, rehearsals commenced. Much of Max and Andre's initial writing was exorcised in the new, "live" setting; yet progress was steadily (if stealthily) made. A three-song demo was produced, a website erected, shows were booked and played. Another year passed in much this fashion, with a revolving cast of supporting players adding their voices to the ever-solidifying sound coming out of .datalyst. During this period Andre, Josh and Max came to the decision to record and produce, by themselves, a professional-sounding and creatively packaged EP. It was a long, laborious process - one that would take until the spring of 2003 to complete. As the final touches were being added to the record came a surprise: the reappearance in Minneapolis of left-coast experimentalist Erick Sommers, who quickly assumed the bass role. Something seemed to gel, and after a few weeks of intense rehearsals the "New, Improved Audrey - Now With 10% More Bass!" was formally inaugurated at Minneapolis' Kitty Cat Klub.
