Winter Machine is the natural evolution of a musical friendship between Minneapolis-based indie-folk artists Coleman Lindberg and Henry Bishop. The pair met in 1998 and immediately felt a creative synergy, often opening for each other at various Twin Cities clubs, coffee shops, and community events. In 2001, they joined forces with drummer Chris Hepola and bassist Eric Struve to form a full band and record the CD "A Few Things I Believe," which blended a raw live folk sound with quirky pop and new-wave production flourishes. The band went on indefinite hiatus in early 2003 so its individual members could pursue solo projects, but demand for recordings of Bishop and Lindberg remains consistent and the pair is still known to surprise audiences with impromptu on-stage collaborations. Bishop is currently involved with an emo/indie outfit called Running on Empty, while Lindberg is performing solo and recording new material for an upcoming solo release in early 2006.

Here are a few press quotes about the musicians and the music:

"Winter Machine falls somewhere between a youth-oriented Timbuk 3 and a superfortified Ani DiFranco...'A Few Things I Believe' offers much to the groupie who wants a personal, portable validation of his, her, or zir queerness...audiences connect with with and appreciate their laid-back, genuine presence onstage, whether swaying with one of Bishop's quirkier pop tunes or swooning to Lindberg's octave-spanning, Beck-like vocals...strangely mesmerizing harmonies and roiling instrumentals..."
---Lavender Magazine

"Winter Machine is a strange name for such a warm-sounding folk-punk band that serves up brisk, catchy tunes and soaring harmonies."
-The Duluth Weekly Reader

"Coleman Lindberg attacks the media hype of junk-food journalism, belting out 'I don't give a shit about Monica Lewinsky/I'm just happy that she got laid'."
-All Music Guide

"There are a few CDs I've found that give that 'chest tightening with joy/about to explode' feeling and this is one of them. Great lyrics, great vocals, great variety, great everything."
