In the spring of '97 the Laughing,(then the Laughingdogs), started a project that was to become their debut album Absolution under the new name. Collaborating with producer David Heath, the band brought in many guest musicians, including Lloyd Maines on pedal steel (Wilco, Talking Heads, and Terry Allen), John Hagen on cello (Lyle Lovett, Jewel), and many other amazing Austin musicians. After almost two years in the studio and a slight adjustment to the name, the band is proud to present their latest CD, Absolution. Singer songwriter Guy Clark has dubbed the group "enchanting and amazing", while Austin's own Trish Murphy is quoted as saying "Sly, addictive melodies with harmony only brothers can pull off." The Austin Chronicle calls the band's material "right on the mark." As for the Austin American Statesman they describe the Laughing as "fluidly moving through musical styles."
