the impetus for starting the encaustics came from an idea for a college senior art project. the intention was to produce a soundtrack to accompany a series of publicly displayed slide shows of encaustic paintings depicting the birth of zebras. unfortunately, the encaustic paintings never reached fruition, but the original songs were salvaged and re-recorded later to form a compilation (psychographic diaries and field studies) which served as the encaustics' debut release. the encaustics' sound is best described as a pop/rock template with an acoustical foundation that has been taken apart and glued back together again, producing a new and original form that incorporates bits and pieces of different genres, including shades of folk and indie pop. this cross-breeding of various sounds and styles gives birth to a wholly unique, intriguing sound that has come to epitomize the artistry of the encaustics.
