For the past two years Shawn has performed in Metropolitan DC with The Ed Myers Quartet at The Asean Bistro, at Les Folies with Sean A. Lane and WAMMY (Washington Area Music Assoc) nominated The Bay Jazz Project, at Maryland Hall with The Rob Levit Trio, and in East Hampton, NY with the Jane Hastay and Peter Weiss duo. In 2002, 2003 and 2004 she performed in The Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival at Victoria's with The Jeff Irwin Quartet and with that band recorded Nightingale, classic jazz standards also available on CD BABY. She was recently admitted into American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), signifying her arrival in the songwriting sorority with her inspirational ballad At the End of the Day for Ladyship Publishing. GYPSY includes six original songs sounding her affection for the intimacy of the guitar, Spanish, pop, folk, and reggae, which she performs throughout south Florida along with her repertoire of jazz standards. She toured Japan for a year with the duo Blue Satin Sound as well as worked in TV, film, and Off-Broadway in NYC, after studying at The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute where she earned a BA degree in Dramatic Arts, and continues to study music at local universities. Shawn grew up in northwest AL, home of The Alabama Music Hall of Fame, W.C. Handy and Muscle Shoals Music where her mother was an organist at a church and Shawn sang in the choir. She was influenced by composers of the 40's with their beautiful melodies and crafty lyrics, rhythms of 70's R & B and rock, and the peaceful storytelling of folk music.
