Leroy Percy is a singer/songwriter who now calls Scottsdale, Arizona home. As he was born and raised in the heart of the Yazoo Delta (Belzoni, Mississippi), you can still hear the rhythms of what has been referred to as "the most Southern place on Earth" in his songs. He, and his father before him, were named for influential Southern Senator Leroy Percy. With roots like this, it's no wonder that the region made such a lasting impression on Percy's musical career. After singing in Baptist choirs as a boy, Leroy took up the clarinet. As an accomplished player, he landed a scholarship to study music at the University of Southern Mississippi. It was here that Percy began singing and accompanying himself on the guitar. After graduating, he performed in several groups, riding out the folk boom of the sixties along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. After tenure in the Southern Folk Trio, the Claybrooke Singers, and the Benedicts, Percy was drafted into the military. Leaving behind New Orleans' French Quarter where his solo career was just flourishing, Leroy spent two years in an Army Band. Fronting a rock band called the Casinos, he garnered gigs at service clubs and military bases in Vietman, and back home in the states. With his service complete, he headed to L.A. to try his hand at a full-time music career. Small clubs and restsaurants throughout Southern California hosted Percy, but he soon tired of the insecurities of the scene. He accepted a position in the music industry with a major record label.
