A soulful combination of great hooks and sassy lyrics, Bari Koral recalls some of rock music's most popular princesses on her infectious album JOY. It was the release of this record in 1999 that earned Bari a reputation far beyond her hometown of NYC and would go on to sell thousands of copies. "When I'm Gone" was featured on Providence on NBC as well as in independent feature films and, at least up till the release of "Confessions", had been the band's most popular and requested song. JOY, now in it's 3rd pressing, has received hundreds of write ups in local, national and regional papers across the country, including a glowing spotlight in BILLBOARD. "Even as I went in to record "Confessions of an Indiegirl" I knew I wanted to get back to some of the simplicity and the accessibility of JOY. It was for years my most popular record and it did a lot for my career. I used JOY as a bit of a blueprint for Confessions." Recorded at a time when the NYC music scene was breaking acts like Lisa Loeb, Jeff Buckley, and Joan Osbourne, Bari & her band were themselves always a popular draw in NYC. They were voted one of the best bands of the year by Newsday, were picked as among the most likely to succeed by the LI Village Voice and the Music Paper printed that Bari had the "Best Voice in NYC." "Joy" is an irresistible blend of great smart pop, delivered home by earthy and sexy vocals. Lovers of soulful pop, and fans of artists like Crowded House, Jonatha Brooke, Ani Difranco & Jewel will defiantly delight in this record. 7 of the tracks were produced by Anton Sanko & Frank Vilardi, who made up Suzanne Vega's touring and recording band for many years. The melodically infectious 1st track, "Cold," as well as 2 other tracks were produced by Jimmy Bralower, a renowned contemporary producer, mixer, and arranger who has worked with tons of top selling artists. There are also two exuberant live tracks which really showcase the natural live energy that made the band so popular. The Voice Raves: "Blessed with one of the finest voices around and backed by a gifted band, Bari Koral and group consistently leave astounded listeners in their wake."
