The Music: Jen and John have been performing and writing music together since the summer of 1994. Their 3rd full length album, "Smarter", draws on the parallel experiences of life and life-in-music. Creatively speaking, the years they have spent together developing their craft have yielded a cohesive, mature and unique style. This project is the product of their combined creative efforts in writing and production. John recorded the CD at his own "Music By Night" studio. Whether in music or in life-in-general it seems the more you strive and dream for, the more you learn, and the smarter you get. The Band: Jen Graham: With the "voice of a siren" Jen's vocals capture the mood of the music. At times she's soaring and strong but can just as easily be heard in a mellow delicate soprano voice. The combination of her classical training and modern vocal coaching give "A Few Degrees" an unmistakable vocal style. John Shoffner: John is a self-taught artist who has a knack for strings including the 6 and 12 string guitars for performances- as well as bass, electric and a bit of Chapman stick in the studio. His dexterity and skillful playing, accompanied with his imaginative approach create a novel and full effect. Cris McAvoy: Cris, a drummer and percussionist began playing with "A Few Degrees" in 1999. Cris adds an energy that compliments the songwriting duo. His talents are showcased as a drummer in the studio and as a percussionist in live performance. He's been known to pull out bar stools and boxes at live shows - a crowd pleasing move that is entertaining as well as musically unique.
