an album written and recorded over an entire spring on lo fidelity basement equipment, in a basement, at night, with lots of cigarettes. midwest american nightlife is all nocturnal acoustic set with low register vocal melodies and storytelling about all of the random adventures that happen in the night.

"when i was writing this record i'd just take one night at a time, often a bottle of good jamaican rum and whatever else i could find, and the night would just kind of dim slowly until i'd wake up the next morning, hit play on the four track, and i'd have another song. some of these songs are in tunings i don't even remember, and therefore a lot of this record has never been played since. it meant a lot to make it, it sounds like its about to fall apart at any minute, and it's probably best taken in one-on-one. not a single human was ever present in the making of it, and all the songs are about adventures with my friends."
