Call and Response are a musical ensemble hailing from the Bay Area,
California. The music they compose is filled with rhythm, harmony, and
warmth. Elements of classic pop, spacey jazz, film soundtracks, folk and
soul music are only some of the musical inspirations drawn upon by the
group.

The Call and Response self-titled debut album from 2001 on Emperor
Norton Records gained international recognition and received positive
reviews from National Public Radio and the Washington Post. Reviewers drew comparisons to the Sea and Cake, Heart, the Jackson 5, and Stereolab. Their debut Soundscanned over 10,000 copies in the U.S.

Call and Response finished recording a new album in January 2004.
With this record, the band innovates a sound that is impressionistic,
mystical, and beautiful. It shows a great deal of growth from the "twee pop" sound found on their previous album. The new 10 song album was recorded and produced in San Francisco by Dylan Magierek (Mark Kozelek, Low, Erlend Oye) of Badman who has released albums by Mark Kozelek, Rebecca Gates, My Morning Jacket, Hayden and the innocence mission.

" It's their second album but it sounds like their third. This album is
a bona fide masterpiece. The songs are beautifully crafted and really
catchy, but not in the same way that their first album's songs are
catchy. You have to let the album steep a bit before it works its
magic on you and the last time an album did that to me it was the
Stone Roses' debut for Silvertone. No shit. I'm not just saying this
because I love them as peeps. First time you listen to it, there are
parts of your brain you forgot about that wake up and go, "Huh?
Whoa..." Second time you listen to it you find yourself blown away by
the lyrics. Today I just listened to it for my third time and I saw
lights. I am so in love with this band once again." - Eric Shea
