Alien Bliss rides again! This time to the islands and back. Several of the songs on this CD were written during a year-long adventure in Hawaii. “Pele”, “Hard Rock Lava Stone”, Elvis in Milolii”, “Prejudice”, the title track “Island Girl” all have island themes. The music is pure Alien Bliss rock n roll.

“Bucket ‘o Bolts” is about crimes without victims. It’s also a cautionary tale about underestimating someone based on their age. This is straight ahead, slightly over the top cowboy rock n roll. “Island Girl” is a metaphor for the island experience in its most positive manifestation. “Prejudice” is a song, masquerading as a love song, about racial bias in the islands based on skin color. Most folks can’t wait to spend time in the islands. “Elvis In Milolii” offers a different perspective, that of someone who is confined to a remote, impoverished area of Hawaii and struggling to exist there. He/she finds solace in the fact that Elvis did come to Milolii, a remote fishing village in the area, once upon at time to shoot a movie (which is true.) The idea that Elvis once visited Milolii and might perhaps one day return incognito from exile to this place sparked my imagination to the point where I took up the theme and used it as a point of departure in two recent novels. One is entitled “The Return of the King: an Elvis novel” by yours truly, Michael Hodjera. And the other, just published, is entitled “Bright Light City: an Elvis novel” also by yours truly. Both can be ordered through a book store near you or from any online outlet. Check ‘em out. You’ll love these books!

“Pele’s Got a Hold On Me” is a song about the famous island goddess of the volcano. “Love Her So”–a slightly idiosyncratic love song, a personal favorite. “Where The Warm Winds Blow” is perhaps the most quintessentially ‘island-style’ song on the project. It’s got that reggae beat goin' on which is present in a lot of current Hawaiian pop. “Can’t Be Elvis”–who says? Check out my books! “Mental Feng Shui” a rockin’ R & B number about psycho-spiritual house cleaning. And finally “Hard Rock Lava Stone” a tongue in cheek song about the relief of getting back to the islands after a sojourn on the mainland. Aloha nui for now!
