"Forgot the sloppy Arctic Monkeys, ask anyone who knows: The Scottish Enlightenment are Britain's best kept Indie Rock secret but they won't be much longer, now they've hit the USA with their debut album on Moojuice Records. 'Volo Ut Sis' is a blistering debut of melodic, expansive Indie Guitar Pop-Rock that just keeps your smiling ipod head bobbing.

The album bursts into gear with 'The Metaphysics of Despair', pounding you with a high energy riff that will burn into your brain like nothing you've heard since "Take Me Out" by Franz Ferdinand. Next up is 'Eyes', a song that meshes a pop hook that just keeps coming back for more but rocks like early 90's Pumpkins or Dinosaur jr. 'The Universe is Drifting Apart' is a 2 interlocking guitar feast of ambulating arpeggios awash with sonic textures and some of the best lyrics and emotion you'll hear this year - this is the Radiohead moment on Volo Ut Sis. Just when you think you've stumbled across the best alternative band you've heard since Pavement the best song appears: 'Blue Green & Yellow' is destined for greatness. It is going to be the pop song of 2006 and is pure pop bliss that melts the ears. It's hummable Scottishness shines through like Belle & Sebastian minus the twee-d. It's the song of the summer. The album then shifts down a notch to its dark heart 'Pathetic Ascetic' a 90's alternative treat before the biggest beast of a riff since Led Zeppelin's 'Kashmir' is unleashed in the aptly named 'Leviathan' - a 70's rock monster. The album winds up with 'Ambulance', a lo-fi loop driven acoustic track that has all the ramshackle delights of the recorded-in-two weeks 1995 Finn Brothers album. For once it's music that far exceeds the hype." As reviewed in MY Magazine

"The Scottish Enlightenment's debut album is a transatlantic experience, bearing witness to both american and decidedly scottish influences. Still, there is something very unique in the breadth of album, which refuses to nestle comfortably into a marketing-driven genre-rut. The belting 'The Metaphysics of Despair' is decidedly british, surfing and Editors-like pulse, but is immediately followed by 'Eyes', a clattering barrage of pavment-ized pumpkin smashing. The Scottish accent elbows its way in throughout the album, setting it apart from the crowd as a listening experience. Blue Green and Yellow is the emotional high point, and challenges anyone not to dance. Ambulance is a perfect study in near silent aftermath music, unconventional yet beautiful."
