one found day is one of the the past winners, under the now retired moniker of Blush, of the philadelphia music conference (pmc), which culminated with "woke up in oz" (track #8 on fun unit) being featured on y100"s best of philly compilation cd (distribution 15,000) and landed them as finalists in the pmc "tour across america contest". *y100 is the philadelphia area's largest rock alternative station the members of ofd continue to gain credibility and are no strangers to media attention. The same track has also been featured on fox television's hit shows "dawson's creek" & "party of five" and another track has been featured on the howard stern radio show, followed by appearances on abc's "philly after midnight" & "grover in the morning". in addition, the band is credited with a featured appearance on wysp's "loud & local" and repeat live performances at the y100 tuesday night music club; proving that they have cemented their infectious melodies in the consciousness of all who listen. james has also had the good fortune to co-write a top 20 lead off single from the first polygram solo album of a premier, internationally recognized, multi-platinum artist. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> fun unit is an album representing a remarkably realized expression of the band's musical potency and power. forged on a slate of extraordinary new songs, the band's songwriter james dilella, has crafted a richly satisfying collection of heartfelt passionate pop, and rock 'n' roll. "we've spent considerable time working out each song," says james, "performing them in different tempos and different keys and different grooves, really assembling the arrangements of each of the tracks. thus creating the rare occurrence, of an album with no throwaway songs." from the opening salvo of "not my girlfriend" through the riveted-tight "king," the melodic highs of "ventilate" and "woke up in oz," the pop sensibilities of "fair-weather" and the spare, haunting "hercules," all the way to epic closer "My universe," this band's camaraderie is fully evident. "my experiences have taught me to appreciate friendship & the lack of it, love and loyalty... basic human values," james explains. "when writing about characters I've encountered and scenes I've survived, it's that need for connection that comes through and hopefully everyone can relate to that. otherwise, you're just talking to yourself." the tension, energy and focus that went into the ten month burst of creativity and activity that ultimately became "fun unit" may have also resulted in the band's most lyrically cohesive material to date. "lyrics are never easy for anyone" james admits. "that said, the lyrics on this album I love more than anything I've ever done." "we definitely struggled in a way to complete this record, but the end result, is a collection of songs with defining tension and energy to it . . . and I think we're always challenging ourselves, whether we're going in a pop direction, or a rock direction. . . that's what makes being in a band interesting and fun, keeping it a challenge and keeping it fresh. but in the end, everything always comes back to the music. for us, success - real creative success - comes one song at a time. you can never take that for granted." listen.
