They are best known for their infectious melodies and dynamic live performance. They have built a strong reputation in the U.S., as well as Germany, Japan and Spain. The fans became hooked on lyrical content and the outstanding musical composition. The debut 6 song EP, Surfaced will be released October 22, 2005. It was produced by chad (Josh Freese - A Perfect Circle/James Iha - Smashing Pumpkins) and recorded at the Alter:Los Angeles, CA, Seattle, WA. Jeff Laliberte, bandleader had this to say about the album, "The album Surfaced, was a long road to finding ourselves, as a group of individuals during its development. The title represents closure but a new beginning. We finally found the direction we want to take musically as we're continuing to grow from that. We're making music that's more for ourselves rather than for the tastes of others, which we find more fulfilling." A Weekend Flight originated in Santa Clarita, CA beginning with brothers Jeff Laliberte (guitar and back-up vocals), Paul Laliberte (bass) and Justin Salas (drums) in Fall 2003. After searching for their vocalist for 6 months, Mike Richards and 2nd guitarist, Shelby Archer, this 5-piece band emerged into the LA music scene in January 2004 and began making music. Playing local gigs and recording a 4 song demo in the summer 2004 they created a solid fan base. They have been continuing to play and write music ever since. Lead vocalist Mike Richards, 20, from Glendale, CA, graduated from Village Christian H.S. As a singer his musical influences include Counting Crows, Radiohead and U2. Mikes role in the band has been to co-write melodies and lyrics as well as handles some of the technical website details. What he feels about the band, "I'm very excited to be where we're at as a band right now. Yet I'm hopeful this album will take us a step further." Jeff Laliberte plays guitar and sings back-up vocals for the band. He is 20 and is currently at College of the Canyons, Santa Clarita. He has been playing guitar for 5 years, trombone for 3 ½ years and is continuing to study music. His role in the band is songwriting and co-writing melodies as well as doing the band artwork. His biggest musical influences are Incubus, Lovedrug and U2. His thoughts, "Our evolution as a band has just begun." The bass player, a brother in the band, Paul Laliberte, is 16. He is a junior at Canyon H.S. and has been playing bass for 5 years. He continues to study his craft as he co-writes the songs and lyrics for the band. His biggest musical influence by far is the Red Hot Chili Peppers. What he has to say about the band, "Music is full of infinite possibilities and my goal for this band is to search for them." Shelby Archer, 2nd guitarist, is 19 and is a music major at College of the Canyons, Santa Clarita. He plans to transfer to Musicians Institute. He has been playing for 7 years. He co-writes the music for the band and he is influenced musically by Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Dream Theater. His outlook, "You win some, but you lose so many more. I just hope this time we could win." Drummer, Justin Salas, is 20 and goes to college in San Luis Obispo. He has been playing drums for 13 years. His job is to lay down a rhythmic backbone for the song structure. His influences are Carter Beauford (Dave Matthew Band), Dave Weckl and Tool. His feeling about the album, "I think the fans will like what we've done as much as I do. I'm just ready to get out there and play."
