This CD contains the best of the many demos produced by Alex Kahney in various guises and band memberships such as the Wanted and the Pyknic during 2003-04. "One take" was the theme of these recordings. Neither planned nor rehearsed, each instrument was recorded in a matter of minutes, whole albums sometimes made in a day. Although historically there have been notable albums recorded in a day, none was recorded AND arranged that fast. Even the Beatles' first LP, recorded in 12 hours, consisted of songs they had been playing together for years. The procedure unifying these recordings was first Alex recorded an acoustic guitar plus a vocal then layered on top from there with improvisations on drums, other instruments, and finally a bass on most songs. The recordings were made on 4-track with some on 8-track tape usually with drums caught on a single microphone, bass plugged directly into the deck, and Alex's harmony vocal added later. Apart from Alex, the mainstay of most of these recordings is the presence of Mac the Knife on lead guitar. Mac first joined Alex in the Wanted, and stayed on as a member of the Pyknic as well as some of Alex's later bands. Another prominent musician on many of these recordings is keyboard player Jon Brown, co-founder member of the Wanted who departed before Alex and Mac went on to form the Pyknic.
