Shining Farmer is an Ann Arbor, Michigan based quartet that that plays original music featuring unique instrumentation, poetic lyrics and vocal harmonies. They are pretty classic sounding, a bit hippyish. The band considers itself to be more of a musical group than a rock band. Mike Gentry, Amy Willacker and Gil Clark met each other in music school at Eastern Michigan University. They started performing as "The Falls" with drummer Patrick Cummings. After Cummings departure in 2002, the trio met drummer Ted Ribbens when all the band members were teaching at the DayJams Rock and Roll Summer Camp in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The sound of the band is characterized by Amy Willacker's breezy, soaring and melodic piano. Gil Clark's classic deep-toned bass style compliments Willackers inspired piano work nicely. The band is driven by Ted Ribben's crisp and exciting drumming. Shining Farmer is fronted by Mike Gentry's expressive and passionate vocals and guitar work. The songs range from optomistic, bright pop to dark and introspective ballads. The groups ballad "Rescue" is destined to become a standard. The uptempo rockers such as Table Song and Change are bright and poppy rather than dark and heavy. If you like Lindsey and Stevie era Fleetwood, The Beatles and the Eagles, you will probably like Shining Farmer.
