ROCKPILE MAGAZINE says 'It's catchy. It's superbly written. And it's only a matter of time before singer/guitarist Tobias Kuhn is spoken of with the same rowdy respect as Lennon, Westerberg, and Wilson' CMJ says 'It's a hit-after-hit melodic masterpiece which should garner Miles all the Stateside accolades the band deserves" ALTERNATIVE PRESS says 'Miles' melodies won't leave your head for weeks. The angular pop of 'Sonic 3000' alone is worth clearing space in your heart to make room for these guys. Rating of 8 out 10.' MILES BIOGRAPHY: After enthusiastic critical praise, headlining and support tours with the Flaming Lips and Stereophonics, radio chart number one position in Japan, blistering performances at the Rock am Ring and Rock im Park Festivals, and two incredible full length albums, the band Miles will release a powerful and emotive American debut. Hailing from Bavaria, Germany, the story of Miles began in the mid-90s. Lead Vocalist and guitarist, Tobias Kuhn spent his childhood in Cambridge, England and Peking, China, ending up as a young adult in Wuerzberg. While studying at University, he quickly met musical soul mates in guitarist Mike Silver and drummer Ronny Rock. The trio became fast friends, recognizing their mutual desire to start a rock band. After a limited time waxing poetic about independent rock music, Ronny confessed a strange obsession with AC/DC. Needless to say, the books were closed and Miles was born. After a self-released ep and full length record, Miles landed a recording contract with V2 Records, Germany in 1997. Soon after signing, they recorded their major label debut 'The Day I Vanished' which received critical applause and a loyal following. The debut was quite impressive, touring was strenuous, and the band made friends and fans the world over. Music lovers were starting to take notice of Miles' sonic rock attack, equating them with the sounds from bands ranging from The Pixies to Jane's Addiction; attention rarely found in German outfits. At one time, Germany was not primarily known as a hotbed for independent, free-thinking, and original music. Miles' influential debut paved the way (and set the pace) for a movement that would build quickly, conceiving many new, modern bands. In 1999 the band entered the studio to record the follow up to their critically acclaimed debut. They quickly realized that they had obtained a refreshed outlook acquired through their experiences on the road. Their sound was even more diverse, more lush, more pop, more weird, more cutting, more enlightened, and more refined on these new recordings. Teaming up with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, these songs became the band's eponymous sophomore effort "Miles." Fans across Sweden, Japan, Austria, Germany, and the United Kingdom were beginning to find their new voice in Miles' efforts. The band's pop masterpiece even gained some attention here in the United States, a territory unable to find the album in stores. In 2001, New York City based Feel Records contacted the band expressing a huge desire to introduce Miles to America. Shortly thereafter, the band locked down an American label deal and recruited bassist Nina Kraensel to join the band, bringing a new perspective and approach to their sound. Structure Vs. Happiness is a compilation of the strongest tracks found on Miles' first two records 'The Day I Vanished' and 'Miles.' The band successfully combines the power of Ride and The Posies, the classic song arrangement of legends ranging from the Beatles to the Beach Boys, and the raw fuzz and energy of Blue Cheer. All the while, Miles delivers some of the most infectious, intelligent, and original melodies you've heard in recent years. With one listen, the audience will realize just how long it has been since they heard pop music that was smart, and how much they missed the feeling of finding something truly new. What we have here are really fourteen singles, fourteen hits, adding up to an incredibly well-rounded album that you want to listen to from beginning to end, all over again.
