CD Review: Bob Silvestri, Best of WNY.com - 10/01/03 Ex Major Healy/Contortionists bassist and Buffalo Music Award winner, Mike Morrissey has released a solo CD entitled "LOst In My Mind". The melodic disc finds Morrissey exploring ska, John Lennon and pop influences for an appealing sound. The light bouncy sounds of "Always Waiting" starts the disc. Penned with his ex-contortionists member Rob Falgiano it gets the CD off to a perfect start. "Shiny Blue" and "Bad Luck" both hark back to Lennon's best solo works. Both feature very smart use of horns to flesh out and shape the songs. Continuing on that Lennon/Beatles vibe, Morrissey tackles the BEatles "And Your Bird Can Sing". While its always difficult to reprise a Beatles song, Morrissey succeeds with aplomb. The ska romp "Who Killed Todo?!" comes through as a CD highlight. "Cement Mixer" with its swinging cabaret drums and vaudville singing is immensely enjoyable. "Make Your Move" and I'll Be A Star" are driving guitar rockers. "Strawberry Mornings", a leisurely number, benefits from the Honky-Tonk piano playing of Ed Saccoccia and dobro playing of Mudbone Johnny Dieckman. Helping out Morrissey on Lost In MY MInd include Brian Broad, Myron Deputat, Chris Hart, Rob Lynch, and Eric Seymour. Although only 16 tracks are listed on the liner notes, stay tuned for hidden track number 25. Michael Morrissey Lost In My Mind is a combination of styles ranging from Americana Pop, to Rock, and Ska. The music has drawn comparisons to The Beatles, Paul McCartney, The Specials, Brian Wilson, Sting, The Police, and early Elton John. Catchy Pop-Hooks meet rock so flavorful it will leave you wanting more and more and more! Morrissey can been heard playing in the Buffalo, New York area with his new band Reverend Morrissey. Reverend Morrissey includes Morrissey on Bass Guitar and Lead Vocals, Rob Lynch on drums and Vocals, Eric Seymour on Electric Guitar, Chris Hart (Brotha Luv) on Guitar and Vocals, Drew Karkau(D-Bone) on Trombone, and Jason Weitzel (Silky J) on Baritone Saxophone. Morrissey can also be seen with his former band Major Healy on Comedy Central¡¦s show Premium Blend starring David Alan Grier. Major Healy was the House band for a full season of shows.
