"Spitefully pleasurable" -The Village Voice "Artful pop suffused with a darkly comic outlook" - Portland's Willamette Week "A tight, joyful pop racket . . . full of nice touches." - Puncture Singer-songwriter Blair Tefkin sounds like nobody else. Funny, sad, wistful, angry and odd, her lyrics possess the black comic sensibility of a Coen Brothers' film, while her music cleverly combines touches of 50's girl groups, 60's pop, lo-fi, and hi-drama... Throw in her unusual "child-woman" voice and you've got something truly unique. "Shocked and Devastated," (Bossyboots Records) Blair's first full-length CD, is an eclectic collection of "memorable story songs "(L.A. Weekly) peppered with sleigh bells, strings, sitar, scrumptious harmonies and jangly guitars. Portland's The Rocket writes, ""Looks Like Love" could be a hit single, but it's probably too good." In 2001 Gwyneth Paltrow will be dancing to Blair's song "Troubles" in Fineline's upcoming feature "The Anniversary Party." Blair, originally an actress, also plays a role in the film and performs an original song she composed to "toast" screen couple Jennifer Jason Leigh and Alan Cumming. Previously, Blair played bass and sang with her L.A. pop quartet, Lucie Gamelon. In 1998, Lucie Gamelon performed on the Lilith Fair tour (sharing the stage with Morcheeba, Dar Williams, Patty Griffin, et al). They also played with The Eels, recorded with Glen ("Jagged Little Pill") Ballard and Beastie Boys' producer Mario Caldato Jr., and put out a 6 song EP "Everything Is Nice" before parting ways in 1999.
