Alisa J

Canadian born songstress' Alisa J and Joni Mitchell have something in common. Both hail from rural Saskatchewan. According to Alisa "growing up on the prairies was a very isolating but awesome experience. My energies needed to be channeled into something that provided me with a connection to people and for me that was acting and music".

This impulse led her to Toronto to pursue a successful acting career. Although Alisa had been classically trained in both piano and flute, it was the sudden loss of a close friend that prompted Alisa to start writing songs. "Doug had always been a big ally in all my artistic pursuits. I started to write about him. It ended up being a song". After moving to Los Angeles, Alisa met singer/songwriter James Combs and musician/producer Carl Royce who produced her first CD "Woke Up".

Her five-song collection signifies a great leap forward in Alisa's artistic expression. "I love both acting and music but music provides me with a more personal, direct and immediate way of communicating". Alisa's songs reveal a startling sense of honesty and heartbreak uncommon for a debut effort.

Alisa would love to hear her songs on the radio and in television and film projects. She is also interested in other artists interpreting her work. She plans to complete a full-length CD Later this year and perform live gigs in the L.A. area. A promising start, eh?
