Alisa J Canadian born songstress' Alisa J and Joni Mitchell have something in common. Both hail from rural Saskatchewan. According to Alisa "growing up on the prairies was a very isolating but awesome experience. My energies needed to be channeled into something that provided me with a connection to people and for me that was acting and music". This impulse led her to Toronto to pursue a successful acting career. Although Alisa had been classically trained in both piano and flute, it was the sudden loss of a close friend that prompted Alisa to start writing songs. "Doug had always been a big ally in all my artistic pursuits. I started to write about him. It ended up being a song". After moving to Los Angeles, Alisa met singer/songwriter James Combs and musician/producer Carl Royce who produced her first CD "Woke Up". Her five-song collection signifies a great leap forward in Alisa's artistic expression. "I love both acting and music but music provides me with a more personal, direct and immediate way of communicating". Alisa's songs reveal a startling sense of honesty and heartbreak uncommon for a debut effort. Alisa would love to hear her songs on the radio and in television and film projects.
