BIOGRAPHY- STONECASTLE 2003 Toronto based Stonecastle came together 3 years ago to blend a variety of influences, reflecting a combined long-time interest in spirituality and religion. Lead singer songwriter Irvin feels that his songs could be, "messages to the world" and sometimes asks himself, 'where did this come from?'. I know this is a typical artist's experience, but it points to an intelligence and wisdom that I do not easily recognize in myself. I don't know if this is what happens after being a songwriter since twelve and always being interested in religion...but the universal career counselor may be still trying to get me a unique job...." The Songs God's Plan: "I was feeling confused and in awe at the thought of a master plan that somehow worked itself out in accordance with my free-will -- God watching our every move whose influence somehow led to our strengthening -- that somehow taught us and mysteriously did not impeded our own decision-making. I wanted to get it across that we are special creatures, with a unique and divine spark, with some simple things to accomplish - but we are never alone." Always Hearing Heaven: " No matter what we go through in our lives, we are hearing the music of the life. I believe its constantly being beamed towards us. Its there when we fight...its there when we make love. Its up to us to listen, even during the most difficult of times. I believe the actions of our lives rise into the universe and universal events beyond our understanding are felt here on earth." Miracle Minded: " The simplest teachings are the hardest to practice. The song is a child-like reminder of what the formula is. The state of being Miracle Minded is to understand that every waking moment is a miracle, an inexplicable relationship with consciousness that we are born into forever. The more aware we are of this "miracle life" the more aligned our actions become with creation." Great Rays: "I have read about the great rays of the universe shining through the solar plexus connecting all people, and all of creation. Faith embodied simply shines and shines - to everyone's mutual benefit. The song was written for a friend who was enveloped in darkness and I wrote this song to focus "light" to express the situation and make sense of it. I think I tried to resolve my own conflict in all of this in the song." John Scharf - Drums/Keys Technical guru and drummer John Scharf rounds-out a sensitive but steady beat whose drums rolls and phrasing say a big "rock chemistry" that combines the guitar and bass in a way that says, "I play best, loud". John's solid rock sentiment makes a crisp Canadian musical statement for the band. If there ever was a time for accessible music with a message, it is now.... So if spiritually inspiring music and lyrics are to your liking, then Stonecastle is worth a listen.
