During the '90s, Holland's Nightblooms mutated from a My Bloody Valentine influenced noisefest to a Pooh Sticks influenced indie-arena band, with only the breathy, lispy vocals of Esther Sprikkelman remaining a constant. Both Nightblooms albums ended with a brief, subdued, folk-rock song, and it's a safe guess that those were a sop to Esther's true musical leanings. Safe Home picks up where those album-closers left off, in Blue Eyes (Pale and Judy) territory. Some very subtle analog synth fizzes fill out the minimal guitar/harmonium/drum-taps backing, and the overall effect isn't unlike the fading autumn wistfulness of The Clientele.
