Pheromone is pleased to present their first EP, "Memoirs from a Four-Star Attic". It's been quite a while in the making. So long, in fact, that they refer to these songs as an older batch of polished demos. Still, this has some of what will surely be regarded as classic a few years from now. "Memoirs..." was recorded in the band's attic on an 8-track recorder. "This was the first recording I'd done without the help of Brad Jones," says guitarist/vocalist Jeremy Asbrock, who had worked with Jones on a number of recordings including the Shazam and the Assponys. Brian Clements, the band's bassist who shares songwriting and vocal duties seems pleased that their songs usually remind people of no one they've heard before. "We spend a lot of time on arrangements. I don't like songs that are predictable. I prefer surprises, quick turns that may take you down a dark alley for only a moment and quickly steer you back into the bright sunny day you were earlier enjoying." A great example is the mysterious "Andrew's Palace," or "BlueGrassGreen" which sounds like it might have been inspired by Quadrophenia era Who. Pheromone would not have formed quite the same without the almost blasphemous decision to forego the standard two guitars, bass and drums lineup of the recent decade for the more adventurous arrangement of guitar, keyboard, bass and drums. Rob Danner not only helped shape the band's sound with many an analogue synth riff, he contributed to the writing as well. Thanks to Rob, the chemical concoction that is Pheromone is extremely complex to break apart, but very easy to understand. You take otherworldly pop and rock tunes, add a dose of 60's hooks, old-fashioned early-70's groove, keyboard sounds straight out of a late 70's Cars' album and you've almost got it. Just add Jeffrey Brown, whose job it is to define a pocket for the band to fall in. "Memoirs..." a snapshot of a band who at the time was close to finding itself. A few dozen shows, including Dancin in the District, and a fistful of songs later, has helped define who they are and what they sound like. The Nashville Scene described them as having a "dark-toned, post new-wave sound, sparkling with memorable melodies and thoughtful, keyboard aided arrangements". "Rock-n-Roll with a new wave garnish," Jeremy offers. They are already moving forward with a new single, “Lemonadeâ€, that's just this side of radio friendly and they are bringing a loyal fan base with them.
