The idea for Bears came about in 2004, when long-time friends Craig
Ramsey (The Lovekill, Kiddo) and Charlie McArthur were living in
different states. Essentially, the plan was that when Charlie moved
back to Cleveland the duo would start a pop band and write songs for
fun. Little did they know just one year later they'd have a
full-length CD, an army of fans and loads of critical acclaim under
their belts—all before they played their first show.

The first song they wrote, "Walk Away" was completed in just two
sessions, and the duo were so happy with the results that an album
quickly followed. Instead of waiting to find a label to release the
album, the band pressed it themselves to keep that initial momentum
going. Bears has been described by You Ain't No Picasso as a record
that "recalls the tenderness of twee, the poeticism of Morrissey and
the pop stylings of many of the bands on Matinée"—but that's only part
of the story. And while the group shares an affinity for acts like
Belle & Sebastian and Camera Obscura, their music is pure unbridled
pop, in the best possible way. Catchy, carefree and, most importantly,
free of any indie pretension.

True to their relentless work ethic, Bears are already working on the
follow-up to Bears and looking to expand their sound by experimenting
with new instruments and arrangements. Filling out the band's live
lineup is Patrick Tripto on guitars and Farfisa organ, Sean Sullivan
on bass, Rachel Hart on bells and percussion and Jared McGrath on
Rhodes piano and keyboards.
