Blues Guitarist Al Medina is an unknown gem in the galaxy of great blues musicians. A marketing genius once said: a good meal costs twenty bucks and lasts two hours. A good blues recording costs even less and lasts a lifetime! That "genius" was none other than the artist's mother. . .who was a lover of the classics and opera.

Al was born in the Azores Islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. His earliest musical influences were Portuguese folk/gypsy songs and symphonies/concertos by the great classical composers. At age 4, Al demonstrated musical talent and by 12 was learning guitar riffs from the best blues and rock artists of the day, like Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Allman and Johnny Winter. In his teens Al was touring the Midwest with his first dance band.

During a four year Navy cruise aboard the USS John F. Kennedy, flagship of the US Sixth Fleet, Al was lead guitarist/vocalist/songwriter for the ship's band, performing throughout the Mediterranean. He was in his 20's then. In 1985 Al studied piano, composition, and orchestration at Marymount College in Kansas. In 1992 he settled in New Mexico and has produced this totally original, highly praised CD titled "NEVER CROSS THIS DESERT ALONE". Medina plays all instruments, sings all vocals and is the sole creator.

NEVER CROSS THIS DESERT ALONE took 100's of hours to produce. Some tracks tested the limits of Medina's studio and recording engineer!
