ABOUT THIS ALBUM Internationally renowned singer Shafqat Ali Khan, son of Salamat Ali Khan of the famed Ali Brothers, collaborates with Annapurna, a Tibetan Buddhist singer from California, in an improvisation of primoridal sound. ABOUT SHAFQAT ALI KHAN Shafqat Ali Khan is descendent of a 500 year old musical lineage of the court musicians to the Mogul ruler Akbar the Great. He is the son of Ustad Salamat Ali Khan of the internationally renown Ali Brothers. The deep, soulful lyricism of elaborate ornamentation is a style of the musical tradition of the Sham Chaurasi Gharana. ABOUT ANNAPURNA Annapurna is a disciple of HH Dudjom Rinpoche, who was head of the Nyingma Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. She also studied with HH Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and the Zen master Suzuki Roshi. She was named Annapurna by the Indian saint Neem Karoli Baba Maharaj-ji. Annapurna practices Chinese Medicine in California. This ancient form of singing - spontaneous primordial sound - is a form of spiritual practice.
