"Light Pupil Dilate really manage to pull off kick ass rockin' noise while prying chunks of virtually every heavy style under the sun together...Good shit!" - Dave Brenner, Metal Maniacs November 2003
"Cascades is a sprawling hard-rock behemoth - a visceral torrent of chugging minor key structures, intricate melodic shifts, and bellowed vocals..." - Kevin Forrest Moreau Creative Loafing September 2003

LIGHT PUPIL DILATE

MICHAEL GREEN (DRUMS)
ERIC SEARLE (VOCALS, GUITAR)
MIKE CHVASTA (VOCALS, BASS)

Light Pupil Dilate hails from the southern city of Atlanta, GA. Starting years ago as a collaboration between bassist/vocalist Mike Chvasta and guitarist/vocalist Eric Searle, Light Pupil Dilate coalesced into their present form with the addition of drummer Michael Green (formerly of Atlanta hardcore band 12 Ounces) in 2001. This "power trio" has been steadily playing venues in the southeast for the past two years sharing stages with the likes of Today Is The Day, Cutthroats 9 (Unsane), and Totimoshi. In the fall of 2002, Light Pupil Dilate started recording their debut album, Cascades. They released the record in 2003 through Vert Records. Cascades was produced, engineered, and recorded entirely by Light Pupil Dilate in their rehearsal studio and took nearly six months to record. The band chose Matt Washburn of Ledbelly Studios (Mastodon, Norma Jean) to mix the album because of his experience with heavy music (and his cool demeanor!) Cascades was then mastered by the legendary Rodney Mills of Rodney Mills' Masterhouse (DIO, Lynard Skynard), who gave the album its final edge. The rest is history. Cascades is a thematic, "start to finish" album. No filler, just intense "in your face" rock.

The music falls somewhere within the sound of their influences. The drums pound like Sepultura, while the guitar's chordal patterns are reminiscent of Sunny Day Real Estate and Helmet. The bass lines are forceful and driving, much like Nomeansno or Shellac. Light Pupil Dilate delves into many styles mixing punk, metal, progressive rock, and noise to create a unique and gripping sound. The dual lead vocal presentations of guitarist Eric Searle and bassist Mike Chvasta reveal glimpses of their inner selves through imagery and intensity, using unique sing/scream harmonies and vocal trade-offs.

The trite rehashed radio and television rock of the present can be forgotten. Light Pupil Dilate's debut album, Cascades, is fresh and creative, and will definitely be the first in a long line of great albums from this Atlanta trio.
