Mindsink is the latest project from 26 year old guitarist/ songwriter James Michael Bakula. The style of music lies in the instrumental/progressive metal realm with a touch of new age/classical. Synthesis, which clocks in at over 65 minutes, contains all of the material from Mindsink's first 2 EP's, Origin (2000) and The Complex (2001.) The music itself glides seamlessly from guitar-driven power grooves to odd-metered guitar harmony passages to fully orchestrated classical guitar melodies. The material is centered around both solid and creative song structure as well as its strong melodic content. Mindsink is currently in the writing stages for its next CD (which will include vocals), due sometime in 2003.
