Sounds of the Dead Records brings forth a CD for the holiday season like no other before it. A Brutal Christmas: The Season in Chaos has assembled 11 bands bent on changing the face of the holiday season. Each band takes a seasonal classic and transforms it for the truly metal at heart - and definitely NOT for the faint of heart. The musical styles vary greatly from song to song, but never fear, the metal theme is present on every track, including: * The shrill raw black metal sounds of Kekal, * The precision timing of thrash masters Archer, * The Nile like depths of Hearken (who's death metal stylings defy pigeon holing) * The Emperor influenced, progressive black stylings of Frost Like Ashes * The Down-esque groove of Faithbomb * The high class hybrid metal of Royal Anguish (featuring guest performance by Henrik from Mistral) * The grinding brutality of Frank's Enemy * The guttural power of Tortured Conscience * The original sounds of EverSINcEve, Pure Defiance, and Death Requisite With nearly 45 minutes of music this CD is enough to send those relatives who only show up at the holidays on an extremely twisted and demented roller coaster ride. Christmas will never be the same. Here is a review of A Brutal Christmas by Unrestrained! Magazine (Issue #20, has Napalm Death on the cover): "V/A - A Brutal Christmas: The Season In Chaos (Sounds of the Dead) Now I know what I am going to get my metalheads as stocking stuffers this Christmas: 'A Brutal Christmas.' Man, St. Nick will be sh*tt*ng his red pants when he hears how these "bad little boys" have taken seasonal classics and touched them up with metal attitude. An interesting idea indeed and I am surprised that no one ever thought of this. Maybe people thought that such classics were off limits-but that didn't stop the SotD label crew from going ahead with this interesting compilation. As you might expect with any cover versions of songs, some work, some don't. The ones that work are "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" (performed by Kekal), "Mary Did You Know?" (Royal Anguish), "O Come All Ye Faithful" (performed by Hearken) and a f*ck*n' intense version of "The Little Drummer Boy" (performed by Tortured Conscience). The ones that just didn't fly? "Angels We Have Heard On High" (performed by Archer), a weak "Joy To the World" (performed by Pure Defiance) and "O Holy Night" (performed by EverSINcEve). Throw this on during the holidays and I can assure you'll send many running for the door. You gotta love the holidays! -7.5 Track List: 1. Archer - Angels We Have Heard on High 2.
