"Rising from the ashes of a city once steeped in rich musical culture, Velvet breaks through with remarkable ability. Featuring an onslaught of guitars, coupled with a tenacious touring schedule, Velvet has established itself amongst the new elite in the Washington D.C./Baltimore scene. Drawing on a variety of influences, Velvet (at first) appears to be another band with four white kids in it. But, despite their lack of pigment, they have a loyal fan base in the Washington/Baltimore area that has helped them to succeed.

"[Velvet] is probably one of the most requested local bands on our station," said Dave Marsh of WHFS 99.1FM in Washington, D.C. Testimonials such as this are backed by Velvet's headlining at such prestigious area venues as The Black Cat (Washington, D.C.), Recher Theatre (Towson, Md.), The Vault (Baltimore, Md.) and Jaxx (Springfield, Va.), to name a few. They have appeared with such bands as: Good Charlotte, Sev, The Pat McGee Band, The Anniversary and Jepetto.

In addition to local admiration, Velvet has recently set its sights on global domination. In the past year, Velvet has been featured on a variety of compilations and soundtracks from around the globe. Most notably, the track "Vice Versa" from Velvet's second album ("Tragic" 1998) was recently aired on an episode of "Outward Bound" on the Discovery Channel, and Velvet was included on CMJ Weekly's Certain Damage compilation (Vol. 106) along with such bands as Guided by Voices and the Cowboy Junkies. Velvet's three studio albums were recorded at Phase Studios in College Park, Md. and produced by Bruce Falkinburg (Cross My Heart, Bluetip, J.Robbins) and are available through Signal to Noise Records (www.signaltonoiserecords.com). The group's self-titled live album is available through Burn-One.com. Velvet's third studio album entitled "Short Term Memories" was released in April 2001 on Signal to Noise Records."
