Ronald - vocals Klaus - guitars Gerrit - guitars Olli - keyboards Robert - bass Wolfram - drums Alternative Review by Doug Cornell Score: 4.5 (of 5) There's something to be said about Rammstein influenced German rock: Maybe it's a general softening of the industrial sound, but the solid guitar chugging and guttural German singing can get under your skin if you allow it to. I didn't care for Rammstein's "Du Hast" at all the first time I heard it, but now I find the song raises my internal energy level to the point that I bang my head to the song's militaristic beat. Germans have always had a reputation for being an orderly people, and these eleven songs from Toxsin are pretty rigid sounding. All are sung in German, and they are all very very heavy sounding. Rammstein should have patented their guitar sound, because now Toxsin are using the same riff-heavy chords. What makes these songs listenable is the clever use of dynamics, pristine production, and some clever synths and other oddities. "Der Berg" begins with a convincing wind sound and bass sequence. The guitars chug-chug-chug into the song, then lighten up as the singing begins, evoking a hard-goth feeling. Near the song's end a child's voice sings a verse. I have no clue what's being sung, but trust me, it doesn't matter. You listen to this type of music because you desire a heavy sound without heavy-metal clichés. Toxsin makes no effort to change things up stylistically, which is fine because they are very good at what they do. If you are a bit wary of this Germanic rock, start out with the soft-metal sound of "Ich Will." If you grew up with Sabbath or Metallica, this should be right up your alley.
