Systemic is a testament to the genre of metal music. Dubbed "Albuquerque's Modern Metal Monsters" by a local music magazine editor, Systemic has risen to the top of the metal heap since the band started playing live in 2001, already opening for acts like ADEMA,AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE,MOTORHEAD and TRANSMISSION OK as well as performing in front of 1500 screaming maniacs at Edgefest 8. Featured on that bill were P.O.D., Sevendust, Static-X and Coal Chamber. (http://mp3.com/systemic) Systemic utilizes a Street Team to help promote concerts and their MP3.com and MP4.com sites...Having dominated the New Mexico Metal Scene, Systemic is focusing on spreading the infection and taking their brand of high-energy music to the masses of America. Don't miss out on what will be the next Supergroup of the 21st Century!!!

Backstage Pass
By Kevin Hopper
For the Albuquerque Journal

"Whatever you do, don't call us nü metal."
Systemic guitarist Michael Ostrander, who made the above request as I picked up the band's brand new CD, "Biologic," from his post as guitar guy at Grandma's Music, doesn't really have a problem with labels in general - just the one that is the metal buzzword du jour. After a short discussion, he said he preferred "alternative metal," but after listening to the CD thrice over at very high volume, even that doesn't quite hit the nail on the head.
So I listened to it again. And one more time for good measure.
My thoughts, regardless of whatever tag gets thrown at it, is that Systemic has conceived and executed one of the finest slabs of metal Albuquerque has ever heard. In fact, I would challenge any metal fanatic to listen to it and not like it as much as some of the "buzz" bands that are rotating heavy in the MTV 2 video reels.
Rife with a powerful and kinetic energy that immediately sends the listeners' ears swirling, "Biologic" employs the more tried-and-true elements of heavy metal (pummeling, syncopated drum beats, brutal guitar riffs and bellowing vocals). At the same time, the band goes out on a limb and throws odd little twists and turns along the way (flourishes of jazz timing, abrupt stops, on-a-dime tempo changes).
The band, which also includes vocalist Craig Swallows, bassist Scott Gates and Louisiana native drummer Mike Carreras, will be celebrating the record's release at what is sure to be a fairly packed house - given that it is all ages - at Launchpad at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 13.
Though this column is too often wont to cry wolf when it comes to local bands making a national impact, Systemic has the metal gruffness to hold its own against the Machine Heads, Candirias and Godsmacks of the world.
