FATE began in 1994 in Traverse City, MI, when guitarist Pat Sullivan and vocalist Justin Babcock spawned the idea of a powerful new rock band, a unique package that had not been seen before. They shared their vision with longtime friend and guitarist Mike Lumbert, and together, these three formed the core of FATE. After an extensive search of the Michigan area for a top-notch bassist and drummer, the three were not satisfied with their results. They decided to relocate the band to a market with national musical exposure, so they moved to Nashville, TN, in 1998. Once in Nashville, the band began countless interviews and auditions to find the right players. It took until September 1999 for the band to finally land bassist Garry Todd, a Tennessee native, whose winning personality and impressive musical ability instantly clicked with the band. The search for the right drummer proved more exhausting. In time, the band turned once again down a familiar path and asked another longtime friend from Michigan, drummer Mark Pulley, to move down to Nashville and join the band. Mark agreed, locking in the final piece of the puzzle. Hard-driving, heavy music combined with incredible vocal harmonies had Nashville's rock audiences believing in FATE from the band's very first performance. The members' reputation for great music and impressive live performances enabled them to easily land opening honors for Great White, Def Leppard and Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society. The band then began recording its first full-length CD in late 2000 while, at the same time, working on new material. FATE brings a blend of dark three and four-part harmonies laid over heavy, driving grooves and well-crafted lyrics that question and explore the deepest issues of the human existence. It is within these lyrics where the members of FATE explore their thoughts, fears, triumphs and struggles - always referencing their faith in the existence of God. Many diverse musical influences have contributed to the band's work, ranging from Queensrÿche, Dream Theater and Rush to Alice in Chains, Rob Zombie and Pantera. In the April 2000 issue of "Nashville Music Guide," Barye Cassell described FATE as "...not your typical metal band. They have the drive of Creed or Metallica, but rich harmonies reminiscent of Triumph." FATE dedicates itself to the audiences of the genre that has supposedly died, the rock and metal community, proving that both are alive and well. FATE members bring to their songs an element that has been sorely lacking in the popular music of late - the sheer love of the music, which they bring out both in their recording and in their intense live performance. FATE's driving sound has a broad mass-market appeal, making its potential for success nearly limitless. Soon this band will have the world believing in FATE. **UPDATE** FATE has decided to disband as of Jan. 2003. Everyone in the band has walked away on good terms and still holds the utmost respect for each other. They all will continue to write and perform music with each other and with others as this is in their hearts so, get this cd now while the cd's are still available. Get yours now!!!! **REVEIWS** FATE I've been waiting for this one for over a year. It does not disappoint. I got excited just looking at the cover of this album - very cool. The guitars are really awesome - heavy with a nice crisp distorted tone - perfect for those metal riffs. Justin's vocals really thrill me at times. I'll bet he had to drink some tea or something after finishing "Rise." If I screamed like that, I'd either throw my voice out or win a role in a teen horror movie as another casualty. What I like most about this album (and the band) is the catchy melodies within their kickass songs. Tracks like"Afraid," "Suffocate Me," "Apart," and "Rage Within" I have not been able to get out of my head.....and hell, why would I want to get them out anyway? They're great songs. I think my only complaint on this album is that my favorite FATE song (title has the word "Fear" in it...Guys? What one's that again?) wasn't included. But that's okay! I got 14 other great tracks plus a really great hidden track! I love the hidden track - probably my favorite part. Really hits home how these guys can write great melodies. Great job, FATE! If you like local Nashville rock acts, this album should be in your CD collection for sure. -Matt Latham **Reviews** Do You Believe? "Fucking A Right" I believe. I had the priveledge of playing a show with Fate at The Outer Limit on Saturday Night September 21st. I had seen them about a year and a half ago and I am even more impressed now. As I sit here I have their self-entitled CD playing in the background and it is a piece of heavy duty work. The opening song is "Do You Believe" which pretty much gives you 90 or so seconds of "what in the fuck is coming up next" and then the song "Afraid" opens up with a sexy female voice asking you if you believe. Well if you don't believe, then you better recognize! Their live performance is nothing short of a kick in the nutz. And cool they are, they cut their set down early just so my band could have enough time to play. Now that is being a warrior. I think what kills me the most about this CD is their panning of guitars in the speakers. I mean goddamn, it sounds like somebody is twisting my speakers and twirling them around my head. It must be in surround sound, because when I play it in the truck.....I got different sounds coming from all 4 speakers. A great mix, and the artwork is gothic and very metal. "I Won't Bleed for You" is probally my favorite track because of the guitar pans. I like the heaviness and the rhythms, the backing vocal harmonies of all the members, and Justins lead vocals are stronger than ever. I hear a little Sebastian Bach from time to time in his vocals. Overall I give this band Fate a heavy metal fist in the air, for being great musicians, for their badass CD, and for being cool as hell to hang out with at a show.
