Physicist is the newest brainchild of Devin Townsend. Following the theme set by his last effort, Infinity, Physicist explores deeper into the concept of Infinity to the point where all things, either positive or negative, are disregarded in lieu of the middle ground, "The Grey Area"...The sound and visuals of this project reflect the grey theme as well. Lyrically, Physicist goes from being a cry for help, to total bliss, and all stops in between. Devin describes the album as "speed metal pop songs" where he combines brutal drumming (courtesy of the ever graceful Mr. Gene Hoglan), with broad, atmospheric melodies and open repetition. An ambience carries throughout the entire record in the same way as all Devin's work, but a sense of uneasiness rests within this one, making it a very strange trip from beginning to end to be sure.
